DECA
Role-plays and written events across six clusters, judged by industry professionals, from districts to ICDC.
What it is
DECA is the broadest competition MCBA prepares for. Events run across marketing, finance, hospitality and tourism, business management and administration, entrepreneurship, and personal financial literacy, and the format changes with the event.
In a role-play you are handed a scenario and a set of performance indicators, given preparation time, and then present to a judge in character. Prepared and written events ask for a project or a plan submitted ahead of time and defended in person. Online simulations test decision making against a model.
The ladder runs districts, then the state Career Development Conference, then ICDC, DECA's international championship, where state qualifiers compete against chapters from around the world.
